Bhubaneswar, India – May 2, 2025–The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has expressed profound grief over the sudden and untimely demise of Ms. Prisha Sah, a Nepali student enrolled in the undergraduate program at the university.
In an official statement released today, KIIT conveyed deep sorrow, stating:
“We deeply mourn for the untimely demise of our beloved student, Ms. Prisha Sah. Today, all senior functionaries of KIIT gathered, expressed their heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the student community. May her soul rest in peace.”
Ms. Sah, a native of Birgunj, Nepal, was reportedly found deceased in her hostel room. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the university community and sparked calls for increased safety and psychological support for international students on campus.
This incident follows a similar case earlier this year, when another Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the same university’s hostel, raising serious concerns about the wellbeing of foreign students studying at KIIT.
While investigations into Ms. Sah’s death are still underway, student organizations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), have urged the authorities to take strict action and ensure accountability. They have criticized the state government’s silence over repeated incidents and demanded immediate steps to protect international students.
KIIT has assured full cooperation with investigative agencies and has promised to take necessary actions to enhance the safety and mental well-being infrastructure for all students.
The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi is also closely monitoring the situation and has contacted university officials to ensure justice for the deceased and support for her family.
This tragic loss has reignited a broader conversation about international student safety, campus mental health resources, and the responsibilities of educational institutions towards their foreign student communities.
