Lalitpur — In what participants described as a historic and unforgettable moment in the history of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), a formal handover ceremony was held at Hotel Himalaya, Lalitpur, on Saturday. Acting under the directive of the Supreme Court, the High-Level Committee officially handed over cash and assets to the NRNA ICC leadership led by President Mahesh Kumar Shrestha. The event was marked by both celebration and emotion.
The program was chaired by Dr. Shesh Ghale and conducted by Janaki Gurung. Dozens of influential NRNA leaders who were not physically present joined via Zoom, lauding the transparent handover as a milestone in the association’s journey.
The Handover Ceremony
The handover included a cheque of NPR 8,362,228 along with laptops and other office assets. The process was executed by former NRNA President and High-Level Committee member, Mr. Kul Acharya.
Expressing pride, Acharya said:“Today is one of the most memorable days of my life. I am proud to officially hand over NPR 8.3 million and all institutional assets transparently to the legitimate leadership under President Mahesh Shrestha.”
Kul Acharya’s Emotional Speech: Tears of Devotion
In his heartfelt remarks, Acharya reflected on challenges, dedication, and his unwavering faith in transparency:
•Painful but Historic Experience:
“While shifting chairs during the committee’s work, I injured my right foot. But I didn’t utter a single cry of pain because my commitment to this responsibility was stronger than any discomfort.”
•Commitment to Transparency:
“We opened everything to the delegates. From head to toe, this process has been transparent.”
•Revisiting the 2019 Election:
“Back in 2019, 51 out of 65 country presidents requested me to take up the NRNA presidency. But I placed the institution’s welfare above personal ambition.”
•Legitimacy of Leadership:
“Let there be no confusion: the official President of NRNA is Mahesh Shrestha.”
Respecting the Supreme Court’s Order
Acharya stressed:“Our High-Level Committee has followed the Supreme Court’s verdict word by word. The Court asked us to end the dispute, and today we fulfilled that responsibility.”
Bold Call on Nepal’s Social Security Fund
Taking a sharp dig at the Government of Nepal, Acharya raised a pressing issue:“Today, NPR 1.2 trillion is lying idle in the Social Security Fund. This money should not be locked in banks. It must be mobilized.”
He emphasized:
•“Let’s invest it.”
•“Let’s create jobs.”
•“Let’s stop youth migration.”
•“Let’s include hardworking Nepalis abroad in this framework.”
The hall echoed with loud applause in response to his words.
Gratitude and Appeal
Acharya extended his heartfelt thanks to:
•Dr. Shesh Ghale for his impartial leadership,
•Mahesh Shrestha and team for accepting the responsibility,
•Journalists for revealing the truth,
•And all NRNA leaders who joined via Zoom.
Holding back tears, he concluded:“I obtained citizenship, but it never mattered much. What matters is my eternal commitment to serve my motherland. Let us all renounce division and unite for Nepal’s interest.”
