ISLAMABAD, June 21 — The Government of Pakistan has officially announced its decision to recommend U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention” and “pivotal leadership” during the recent crisis between India and Pakistan.

In a statement released today, Islamabad emphasized that President Trump played a crucial role in de-escalating a potentially catastrophic conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, whose standoff in 2025 had sparked widespread international concern.
According to the Pakistani government, the crisis was triggered by what it described as “unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression,” leading to a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The incursion resulted in significant loss of civilian lives, including women, children, and the elderly.
In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, a military operation characterized by Islamabad as “measured, resolute, and precise,” aimed at restoring deterrence while deliberately avoiding civilian harm.
Amid rising tensions, President Trump is credited with demonstrating “strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship” by engaging in robust diplomacy with both Islamabad and New Delhi. His efforts are said to have successfully brokered a ceasefire, defused the conflict, and prevented a wider war in South Asia—one that could have endangered millions.
“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue,” the Pakistani statement read.
Islamabad also praised President Trump’s ongoing interest in the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, calling his mediation offers “sincere” and asserting that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the region.
The recommendation positions President Trump’s actions in 2025 as a continuation of his diplomatic legacy and peace-building credentials. Pakistani officials expressed optimism that his leadership will also play a stabilizing role in current global hotspots, including the Middle East—especially in relation to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and growing tensions with Iran.
If successful, Trump would join a short list of U.S. presidents to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The recommendation adds a bold geopolitical dimension to the lead-up to the 2026 award process.
